The Unconomy

By Tom Walker
There is uncertainty here that’s creating a stall
In the deals that we make with our clients all.
Whether selling or buying or forecasting a trend,
We’re stymied by Congress’s addiction to SPEND.

We have game changing tax breaks expiring this year
On earnings and income and dying, oh dear!
Look for taxes on carbon and candy and ale
And the internet taxes when you hear “YOU HAVE MAIL”

The chaos in government makes most people mad
Combined with lost savings that investors once had.
And deficits mounting feeding government’s bloat
Invest in the future? Please read this note.

I’ve “GONE FISHING” for now, returning this fall.
And I hope the concerns that trouble us all
Will be clearer to those who are empowered by us
To set a direction for this driverless bus.

Yeah, Let’s Jump in the Pool but make sure it’s FULL!

“Everybody is having a good time, ’til someone loses an eye.” We have all heard out mother’s warning on having too much fun. Alissa Walker, a famous walking writer, knows only too well. Look before you leap

Journalist Daughter

May 1, 2008

I have a daughter who says she is a journalist, you know the kind. Just because you can read, doesn’t mean that you are a journalist. Oh yeah! She had been on magazine covers. But I hardly think that makes you a journalist. Actually, I think that she is more of a model or artist.

Modeling in not journalism

Old People need Technology too!

April 9, 2008

As people age, they start to be more discriminating in how they spend their TechBucks. A tech product bought in the 60′s is certainly not as satisfying to that same older person of today. The first thing that has changed is that many of us have evolved from the “Working” phase of life, that period when we struggled to make the most for our Social Security contribution that we might cover our lavish lifestyles as we entered the “Death” phase of life. During the Working phase we were both physical and productive in our daily endeavors and likewise our need for technology was in keeping with those traits. However, in our later years, “moving” was more of a voluntary function and work transformed into leisure. So, our TechBucks, once spent on TechTools are now spend on TechToys.

Notice how tools of the 60′s were about serving the demands of a job and others, while the “toy” for the older man today is oriented toward serving personal needs in their more leisurely death phase of life.

The Last Word

March 19, 2008

I hate lecturing my children
And I’m sure they’ll attest.
That once I get started
I won’t give it a rest.

They’re not listening, I think
When they stare off in space.
Or worse they’re repulsed
Like I sprayed them with mace!

Just a few words of wisdom
While I have the floor.
And I’ll pass them on to you
Before you get out the door.

Your body:
Take care of your body
More fiber for sure.
Keep it clean, fit and safe
Good health needs no cure.

People:
Be good to all people
Who you happen to meet
Share what you can
And beware on the street.

Friends:
Treasure your friendships
Leave no debts unpaid
So when you have a problem
Friends will come to your aid.

Commitment:
Commit to tasks cautiously
Expectations ensue.
‘Cause were not what we say
We are what we do.

Failure:
If you fail while your trying
To do something new.
You’re better off failing
Than not trying to do.

Just learn from your errors
When you make a mistake.
It makes all the difference
In your success rate.

I see some of you yawning
Some fading away
That’s the power I have
Over most Kids today.

Laughter:
Take time out to laugh
At the dumb things you do.
After all we’re talking life
And it’s the only way through.
